Human genetics to identify vascular causes of CAD/MI: from discovery to functional characterization
Physician, Cardiology Unit
Newton Wellesley Hospital
Instructor / Harvard Medical School
Raj’s research focuses on the functional genomics of vascular disease-associated genetic variation. Raj uses CRISPR/Cas9 genome-editing technology to model human variation in stem cell-derived vascular cells. Recently he has focused on variation in the 6p24 locus that is associated with coronary artery disease, hypertension, migraine headache, cervical artery dissection, and fibromuscular dysplasia. Using epigenetic and genetic tools Raj has identified non-coding variants in the locus that regulate gene expression through long-range chromatin interactions.
